IDC – Singapore to lead Southeast Asia in wireless technology

SINGAPORE is expected to take a lead in Southeast Asia in Long Term Evolution and mobile WiMax adoption, given the much higher 3G and 3.5G adoption rate in Singapore than the other countries in this region, according to IDC’s research.
It expects early trial to happen in Singapore, in 2010-2011 and the region’s market for telecom services (including mobile voice, mobile data, fixed telephony, corporate data and Internet access services) to witness a year-on-year increase by 8 percent to US$36 billion in 2010.
Accordingl to IDC, Android is projected to grow its shipment by 260 percent in 2010 as its open-source positioning has made its operating system a favourable option for third-party device makers and operators.
The rapid increase in smartphone usage will also fuel the growth of mobile broadband across the SEA region.
