World Bank: Singapore the best country to run a business

According to the latest 2011 World Bank report, Singapore remains the best country to run a business. The report rates 183 countries on the ease in which they allow firms to operate.

The other seven factors evaluated are – taxation, trading across borders, registering property, dealing with construction permits, closing a business, enforcing contracts and protecting investors.

Hong Kong emerged in the second place, with New Zealand third, followed by UK and US in the forth and fifth place respectively.

Singapore remains top in the rankings over the past five years for a number of reasons, such as its efficiency to import and export and in protecting investors and minority shareholders.
