    Hanafiah’s job is to formulate policies to grow the infocomm, media and design industries and to harness infocomm, media and design as enablers to boost Singapore’s overall economic competitiveness. He is also responsible for formulating policies that oversee the security and resiliency of the Singapore Government’s ICT systems.

    He formerly served as Director of the International Affairs Division at the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA). Hanafiah represented the Singapore Government at a number of international organisations, including the APEC Telecommunications & Information Working Group, the Asia Pacific Telecommunity, the ASEAN Telecommunications & IT Meetings, the ASEAN Telecommunications Regulators’ Council, the ITU, the OECD and the World Trade Organization (WTO). His focus was on international ICT-related issues such as trade and investment liberalisation and implementing effective policy and regulatory frameworks for ICT and e-commerce.

    In addition, Hanafiah has worked in the area of broadcasting and information policy at the then-named Ministry of Information and the Arts. He also spent more than 2 years on engineering consultancy and project management at the Public Works Department.

    Hanafiah studied electrical engineering at Cambridge University, UK.
